Gardens Visit

Last week we visited the Botanical Gardens. It was a fun day. We had our lunch and played on the cool playground first. James bought a frisbee so we threw that around too. Then we we went and did some volunteer work at the gardens. We raked up Pine cones from the native gardens and we put duck food into little bags so that people can feed the ducks. The best part about the day was feeding the hungry, friendly ducks! Thanks to the parents that came along to the gardens with us.

Catching Up

Xin Chao,

Sorry we haven't posted to the blog for a while. We have been very busy because we have been:
- running the cross country
- making cards for Clara and Shayden who are both away at the moment
- practising for our class assembly (thanks for coming along)
- making things for the fair
- running around the school trying to get into the 100 lap club
- learning about weight

Heres a photo of us when we were class of the week.

Next Saturday we have a very special event happening at school. It is the
SCHOOL FAIR
There are going to be lots of great things to see and buy at the fair so please tell as many people as you can about it and come along.

There is even going to be a cake competition. You can win a prize by making a cake or cupcakes from the past, present or future!

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Kia Ora,

Over the last few weeks we have been writing instructions. We wrote instructions for general things like brushing your teeth and then we moved onto recipes. We made fairy bread and wrote the recipe for this.

On Tuesday we were learning about how a hangi is cooked. We practised some of the steps in making a hangi by making chocolate bananas.  You can read some of the children's recipes below.

We also used our imaginations to make some disgusting recipes... BAT BURGERS, SLUG STEW and HEART BREAK ICECREAM to name a few!!!!

Photos of our Museum Trip

Kia Ora everyone,

On Wednesday we went to Otago Museum. While we were there we saw some maori instruments, whaikairo (carvings) and we heard a maori legend about Papa and Rangi. They were in love and got pushed apart by Tane Mahuta.

We looked at the patterns and designs in the maori art and then we drew our own tikis.

We had a wonderful time and would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents that came along with us. Thanks James, Gretchen, Vanessa, James, Yoshi and Scott.

Have a look at the photos of our trip.

We are very proud of Lintong and Louie-Thomas

Look at the video of Lintong and Louie saying their Moment in Time speeches in front of the whole school. Both of these boys got through the Middle Team Finals into the School Finals. Lintong was placed third out of all the Year 3 children at George Street. Well Done boys. You worked very hard!

Pyjama Day

Hi everyone,

Wow! We have been so busy and haven't had the chance to write to you for a while.

Here are two latest Bucket Fillers,
Georgie and Noah
Both of them worked hard to make good choices to get their names in our bucket.

Today was P.J. Day and we felt a bit weird wearing our pyjamas to school. It was fantastic to get so many great prizes for the fair. Thank you for your contributions.

Over the next few weeks we will busy learning our poems and speeches for the school speech competition.

We also have a visit to the Otago Museum coming up so look out for the letter home about that. We will need some parent helpers for that trip please.

Talk soon,

From Room 17

Things to Tell You

Tena Koutou,

This week we want to tell you about our maori art. We have been drawing korus and have made some kowhaiwhai panels and turned them into an entrance for our class door. It is very bright and colourful and every time you walk through the door you are blessed and given strength by the tiki at the top.

We have started writing 'A Moment in Time' pieces which are short, detailed parts of a story that use juicy words. Tom did an outstanding job for his first Moment and Time so we have published it here for you to read.

I was being lifted up, I felt so scared I nearly lost my breath. I screamed because I really felt I was going to wet my pants. All of a sudden it dropped me!
By Tom Clark

We are very excited to start drinking milk this week. We drink it very day after lunch and think it tastes delicious. We then fold the milk boxes a special way so that they can get sent to Thailand and be recycled into things like paper and roof tiles.

Please write a comment.

Till next time.
